About Battle Lake Community Baptist Church - Our History

The first Christian ministry in the area was started in 1903 by Emma Papineau, when she and her husband Francis (Frank) and his brother Fred came to Battle Lake.
They were the first white people to settle at the west end of Battle Lake.
In the beginning the local Native Canadian Indian women came to the meetings, but this abated as more and more white people moved into the area. The Papineau's donated the land where Battle Lake Community Baptist Church is located. The building itself was built in 1913, with land, lumber and labor all donated by local people.

Rev. J.M. Nelson arrived in the Westerose district in 1904, with his family, and immediately began to conduct services in homes of other settlers and was the first minister at the church at Battle Lake when it was built.

It was often difficult to get ministers in the early years, which resulted in the church being closed for a time.
We now have been open continuously since 1982.

There have been three additions to the church structure since the first building was erected.
In the 1950's it was the west end. In the 1960's, a basement was added and the church itself was moved farther back from the roadway. The most recent addition was in the early 1990's, when the front foyer, complete with water and sewer and bathrooms was added.

About Battle Lake Community Baptist Church - Our Future

Battle Lake Baptist Church is launching a long-term plan that will make us a true “outpost” for Jesus Christ in our local community. We want to better meet the needs of people not currently active in a church so that they can experience God’s grace and grow to become fully committed followers of Christ.

Outreach programs such as our 'Country Church' have proven to be a huge success in the community, and our doors are just about filled to capacity!
That, coupled with the projected growth in our community, we feel God is leading us to a larger building, capable of serving the needs of family members of all ages.
We have officially started our Church Building Fundraiser. Please check out our Fundraiser page for updates, and how you can make a donation.
